We are registered with the Information Commissioner’s Office and abide by Data Protection law at all times. More than that, though, we understand the principles behind the laws and how annoying it can be when businesses share data with third parties without permission. This is something we do not do.
From time to time we may recommend that your research request be subcontracted to a fellow genealogist, usually a member of the Scottish Genealogy Network: people we know and trust. We may do this because another genealogist has a particular area of expertise or access to records which are a long way from our base. Using other researchers in this way can reduce the research fee you have to pay. We may also subcontract when we are particularly busy. If we believe this is necessary we will discuss with you what information (if any) you are happy for us to pass on.
Your email address
When you email us or use PayPal we will receive your email address. We will only use it for the purpose it was given to us for. If you sign up for the newsletter, therefore, we will email you about once a month with updates. If you email us about an obstacle you are facing in your family tree or place an order with us your email address will be used to reply. We may also email you later, perhaps after a few months, if we have some new indexes which may help you. If you would rather not hear from us again please just email and let us know.
Your postal address
From time to time it may be necessary for you to give us your postal address. This too will never be passed on and we will never send out direct mail advertising to it. It will only be used to send items you have requested from us.
